First Milk rolls out its 2040 net zero target roadmap

First Milk has declared a range of sustainability projects at both processor and farmer member level.
One of the projects will involve the UK’s first field by field soil carbon recoding which it claims to be the first in the world.
It’s a precise and onerous exercise involving First Milk, Nestle and Agricarbon and some expensive state of the art machinery.
Its part of First Milk’s sustainability target to be net zero by 2040 in addition to a target to sequestrate 100,000 tonnes of carbon in members soils by 2025.
Without doubt climate change is a big talking point and seen as a worldwide threat, as CEO of First Milk Shelagh Hancock commented “dairy farming is viewed as carbon intensive and coming under increasing scrutiny”.
