1.60ppl milk price reduction for Barber’s Cheese from 1st October

Posted on: 11/09/23

The reduction results in a standard liquid litre price of £35.15ppl.

Statement from Barbers:

Two months ago we announced an increased milk price for August, which we held for September, this delivering the highest milk price for cheese (non aligned) in the UK. We had hoped to retain this level of price support going towards the autumn, and against the prevailing on farm cost position.

However, as you will all know from reading reports from within the farming press, the 2023 wholesale dairy market background has been extremely down beat. In addition, competitor prices have been decreasing – milkprices.com reporting many Irish milk prices now at sub 30ppl, and this price declared in early August for July milk. Much of this milk will end up within cheese markets – which is a concern. The 7ppl differential equates to £700/t in cheddar markets so will be a challenge.
