2ppl Milk Price reduction for suppliers to Freshways – from 1st May

Posted on: 01/04/25

This reduction will result in a liquid standard litre price of 40ppl.

Please see below the Business Update sent out today from Freshways:

"As we have been monitoring milk production and associated business costs over the past few months, we have observed that the current volume of milk being produced does not allow us to maintain our existing price for raw milk.

Excess liquid milk within the marketplace has seen spot milk prices as low as 30p per litre. As a result, we have lost business and had to reduce prices to avoid any further losses. We have seen milk being sold to consumers for under 60p a litre.

As a consequence, we regret to inform you that, effective May 1, 2025, we will be lowering the price we pay for raw milk by 2 pence per litre.

However, we want to reassure our southern suppliers that the milk supply from the southern milk field remains crucial to our business. As part of our ongoing operational review, we are moving some of the volume from our Acton site to our Watsons processing site in Hampshire. This transition highlights the continued importance of your milk supply in supporting our production needs, and we appreciate your ongoing partnership.

Additionally, we are pleased to report that construction at our new West Brom site is progressing well. We are on track to begin milk processing there around September, which will further strengthen our operational capacity and future

requirements".
