GDT average eases for the second consecutive time in 2022

Tuesday’s GDT auction result ended with a second consecutive all products average fall this time down 1% to US $4981 tonne compared to the $5039 achieved two weeks ago. The total tonnage sold was 21,511 (25,208 tonnes one month ago) with 101 (112 one month ago) winning bidders out of 159 (176 one month ago) registered bidders. Notable price movements were: Cheddar up 2.

No April fools in todays Milk Pricing

As stated in this weeks Barbers producer Newsletter “I cannot find any example where the milk price was increased for the month of May, the UK’s peak spring month of milk production”. Below the May 1st increases range from 0.75ppl to 6.7ppl

4.5ppl Table topping milk price increase for Meadow Foods suppliers - from 1st May

This puts Meadow out in front with liquid standard at 41ppl. Meadow are positive and anticipate further price increases to come.

6.7ppl milk price increase for Tesco aligned farmers – from 1st May (PRODUCER NOTIFIED)

This increase for Tesco’s 500 plus aligned farmers takes them to over 40.84ppl and unconfirmed reports claim the farmers will receive a top up/interim April payment to help with on farm costs.

This increases producers manufacturing standard litre price to 40.05ppl and based on a liquid standard litre to 39.3ppl.

2.07ppl milk price increase for Barbers (Cheese) – from 1st May

This increases producers manufacturing standard litre price to 39.62ppl and based on a liquid standard litre to 38.28ppl. Note Barbers paid 46.86ppl for B litres supplied in February.

0.75ppl milk price increase for Saputo (Dairy Crest Davidstow Cheese) – from 1st May

This increases producers manufacturing standard litre price to 38.75ppl and based on a liquid standard litre to 37.37ppl which is disappointing and certainly behind where it should be for the UK’s leading branded cheese.
