Fonterra’s Milk Price forecast increase partly due to strong demand from China

New Zealand Co-op Fonterra has increased its forecast farmgate price from 24.73ppl (NZ $6.40 per kg milk solids) to 26.28ppl (NZ $6.80). The key contributor to the increase is a boom in Chinese demand.

Sainsbury’s suppliers face delayed final payment terms as another horror story ends

The 1st October saw Medina’s liquid processing facility at Watsons Dairies Southampton finally close its doors at the same time its 3 year contract to supply liquid milk to Sainsburys ended. When Medina were awarded the Sainsburys contract, little did they realise how much pain and financial burden it would inflict. Medina invested circa £3 million in their Watsons Dairy and supplied liquid milk to Sainsbury’s from 18 farmers.

Tesco Cauliflowers from Poland travelled 1,200 miles

Milkprices.com spot milk price 29.49ppl for August milk

This is the average price for spot milk delivered to the processor. Current daily spot traded volumes are running at around 100,000 litres a day to the end of last week before the Medina judgement (see below).

Cheap milk with farmgate liquid prices going up and at least one cash & carry slashing prices

Medina (Dairy) lose 27 million litres as High Court rules against them in another David & Goliath Court Case

In what is a Landmark case Medina/Watsons Dairy lost in the High Court this Tuesday as the Judge concluded that their High Court Injunction to force 16 Meadow Milk farmers to continue to supply all their milk to Medina for a further 9 months amounted to a restriction of trade. The Judge was allegedly very clear on this point in addition to the fact that the farmers milk was not unique with alternative supplies available on the spot market and elsewhere.

0.56ppl milk price reduction for Tesco TSDG aligned suppliers – from 1st November PRODUCER NOTIFIED

This reduction takes the Arla TSDG liquid standard litre price down to 30.62ppl and for a Muller TSDG supplier down to 30.87ppl.

Dairy Farmer complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)

Full marks to the farmer who has just lodged a complaint with the ASA about the current Quorn TV advertisement. He took exception to the line “If you care about the climate, choose Quorn” He correctly informed the ASA that the claim lacked supporting evidence to back up the claim together with the fact no mention was made as to what eating Quorn would achieve or indeed how consumers would be able to recognise how eating Quorn had made a difference.
